Non-fatal strangulation

A short video aimed to educate medical practitioners, legal practitioners, survivors of assault and the general public about the long-term dangers of non-fatal strangulation.

This Clinical Forensic Medicine project was the brainchild of the VIFM’s Forensic Physician, Dr Jo Ann Parkin with tireless support from and collaboration with Family Violence Advisor Meg Bagnall and Detective Sergeant Guy Menhennitt. Thanks to co-presenters Forensic Pathologist Dr Linda Iles and Forensic Radiologist Dr Chris O’Donnell. This project produced a short training video aimed at increasing awareness and response capabilities within the health sector to address the risks associated with presentations of non-fatal strangulation. The creation of this video would not have been possible without funding gratefully received from Bendigo Community Health and the time and expertise of acclaimed author and podcaster, Meshel Laurie, who conducted the insightful and informative interviews..
