PROFESSOR VERNON DOUGLAS
AM OBE MD BS(Adel) MD (Hon, Monash) FRACP FRCPA FRCPATH FCAP
MARCH 1921 - JULY 2019
Professor Plueckhahn, founding father of the VIFM died last week after a long illness. He was 98.
More will be written about his life and extraordinary achievements, but his legacy includes a unique and leading contribution to the establishment of the VIFM and, indeed, to the complete overhaul of Victoria's coronial arrangements. These took physical shape with the opening of the VIFM on 26th July 1988. He was acting Director from 1985-87 and remained on the Council until his retirement in 1999. He was the inaugural Fellow of the VIFM. This was all on a background of inspiring leadership in pathology at Geelong Hospital from the mid 1950's to 1987, and nationally as President of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia. He was a person of rare vision and energy and abilities, and on behalf of the many grateful past and present staff of the VIFM, our deepest condolences to his family.
