Coronial Admissions and Enquiries
The Coronial Admissions and Enquiries (CAE) office of the VIFM provides 24/7 management of the early stages of the death investigation. Our administrative and nursing staff coordinate the medical procedures and managing communication with families, coroners, pathologists, police, hospitals, medical practitioners and funeral directors. Critically they support pathologists and coroners in the collection of accurate legal and medical information that determines ‘what happens next’ in the death investigation. Forensic Dentists and anthropologists support this work and manage the formal identification of deceased persons for the Coroner. The mortuary forensic technical services team also assist in these initial investigation processes, caring for the deceased person when they are brought to the mortuary.
