Expert Opinions
Specialist medical and scientific staff at the VIFM provide forensic medical and scientific interpretation and expert opinions for all of the areas of investigation that we undertake. The Institute employs a range of specialist forensic practitioners who are available to provide expert opinions across a range of disciplines as follows.
It is critical that our forensic experts explain the significance of the evidence base for their opinion, and educate the court on the relevance of the evidence to the matter before the courts. It is imperative that our experts keep abreast of scientific advances in their professional fields. Active engagement in research activities to underpin our evidence base is an essential part of our forensic scientific and medical practice.
The Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine is unable to liaise with private individuals. All requests for an expert opinion must be submitted by a legal representative, or the police with a current, appropriate email address.
