Professor Sophia Zoungas

About
Professor Zoungas is a clinical endocrinologist, physician researcher and academic leader. She trained in medicine and clinical research in Australia. She joined the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at Monash University in February 2011 and was first promoted to Professor of Diabetes, Vascular Health and Ageing in February 2015, Head, Division of Metabolism, Ageing and Genomics in February 2017 and then Head, School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine in January 2019.
Professor Zoungas held a prestigious National Health and Medical Research Council Senior Research Fellowship (2014 – 2018). With over 15 years of research experience she leads clinical and health services research groups and has extensive research collaborations locally and globally. She is unique in having skills in clinical medicine, clinical trials and translation of evidence in to practice in the specialty areas of diabetes, cardiovascular health, kidney disease and healthy ageing. She is sought after as a lecturer to her peers and to lay communities in Australia and overseas. Her clinical practice relates predominantly to acute and chronic management of diabetes from youth to old age.
