The Victorian Institute of Forensic Pathology (VIFP) was created as a result of the Coroners Act (1985), in Section 64(2) it states that the objects of the institute are as follows-
(b) to promote, provide and assist in the postgraduate instruction and training of trainee specialist pathologists in the field of forensic pathology in Victoria; (d) to provide training facilities for doctors, medical undergraduates and such other persons as may be considered appropriate by Council to assist in the proper functioning of the Institute; (e) to conduct research in the fields of forensic pathology, forensic science, clinical forensic medicine and associated fields as approved by Council; MottoThe VIFM motto Veritas Omnia Vincit means Truth Conquers All and was created for the Institute at its inception. GovernmentThe Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine (VIFM) is a body corporate with perpetual succession which was established under the Coroner's Act 1985. AcademicThe VIFM is the Monash University Department of Forensic Medicine The VIFM is also affiliated with Melbourne University
