Staff in the Molecular Biology Section

We are a rather small laboratory consisting of a Manager, a Senior Scientist/Paternity Testing Coordinator, one full time Scientist and one part time Scientist.   We also often have Honours and PhD students as part of our team.

Manager

The manager of the laboratory oversees the operation of the molecular biology section.  The Manager has a PhD and implements and manages research programs in molecular biology, supervises and conducts complex casework, provides a consultative service to legal practitioners and supervises honours and graduate students.

Senior Scientist / Paternity Testing Coordinator

All Scientists in the Molecular Biology Laboratory have a Science degree majoring in Genetics (usually with Honours).

The main areas of responsibility for the Senior Scientist include ensuring the provision of a quality and timely client service for DNA Paternity Testing, promotional activities, scientific advice and DNA profiling in coronial matters and criminal investigations.   The Senior Scientist helps supervise and guide the staff involved in paternity testing, trains students and new staff, and participates in and initiates research projects in the development of new and existing techniques.

Scientists

The Scientists conduct DNA testing for all of our testing services and ensure the provision of a quality and timely client service.  They are involved in research and the development of new and existing DNA techniques.
