The role as support to the investigations of an alleged assault by police has evolved to include clinical duties (examination of complainants and police members), opinion reports (reviewing complaint files) and the provision of evidence in court.
The services provided include a 24 hour statewide service for attendance, or telephone consultancy for advice, to any medical practitioner or police officer about medical aspects of cases involving a person who may have been assaulted by police. In addition, a service for the review of files and the provision of an opinion concerning physical injuries sustained by persons allegedly assaulted by police is provided.
