Paediatric forensic medicine encompasses the areas of suspected non-accidental injury of children, sexual abuse and physical and emotional neglect. The examination of children for forensic reasons is a specialised area in which both appropriately trained paediatricians and forensic physicians have expertise. Such examinations are usually performed as part of a comprehensive, integrated, forensic and child health service. This service is usually delivered within a hospital system and in Victoria is principally conducted at the Royal Children's Hospital and the Monash Medical Centre.
