Tissue Donation
Contacting Families
The Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine is home to the Donor Tissue Bank of Victoria (DTBV) which specialises in working with families to help with the collection of human tissues such as heart valves, skin, bone and corneas for the purposes of donation to help others.
The DTBV’s transplant and family liaison coordinators may contact the family of a recently deceased person to discuss the possibility of collecting tissues for donation. The DTBV acknowledges that they are approaching families at a very stressful time and are highly respectful of whatever decision is made by the family.
