Counselling and Support
The Coroners Court of Victoria’s Family and Community Support Service offers experienced staff who can provide assistance during this difficult time. The Institute’s medical and nursing staff are always available to assist the counsellors in this work.
The death of a partner, child, relative, workmate, or friend is perhaps the most difficult experience that any one of us can go through.
When death occurs suddenly, unexpectedly or in traumatic circumstances, it can create a situation which feels overwhelming. Chaos, fear, anger, guilt, numbness, and confusion are common experiences for those left behind.
Some families wish to meet with the pathologist who examined their loved one and discuss the medical finding in relation to what they might mean for the future health of other family members. The counselling staff are happy to facilitate these meeting and to make the necessary arrangements.
