Dr Melanie Archer and A/Prof Chris Briggs supervised the completion of two forensic anthropology research projects by 3rd year science students at The University of Melbourne. The research projects were carried out by Ms Catherine Gugenheimer titled: "A Critical Evaluation of the Application of Decomposition Markers in Pigs to the Ageing of Human Bodies". Ms Kate Whitehill's project was titled: "The Effect of Decomposition on Cranial Bone Articulation in Neonatal Piglets". National Coroners Information System Pathology Scientific Services The project involves the investigation of 20 cases involving the use of one or more antidepressant drugs that inhibit reuptake of serotonin, particularly those using multiple SSRI drugs, or drugs that can affect the actions of SSRIs. Hair will be used to assess the time course of exposure to these drugs. This information and other toxicological information on the case and relevant circumstances will be used to assess the access to these drugs and the role they played in the death. |
