As the Monash University Department of Forensic Medicine, the Institute has significant teaching commitments. An affiliation with Melbourne University underscores the strong academic links.

The Institute has a significant record in the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as supporting overseas students, especially in forensic pathology.

Post Graduate Programme in Forensic Medicine, Monash University
Monash University, through its Department of Forensic Medicine at the Institute, offers Australasia's only university based postgraduate programme in forensic medicine. Since its inception in 1999 the programme has expanded considerably and has received considerable plaudits from its current and past students.

 Features of the current year enrolments include:

  • The largest student cohort since the course commenced;
  • The offering of a scholarship programme to students from developing countries; our first recipient was Dr Nadine Agnew from Namibia;
  • The provision of subjects coordinated by practitioners outside the Institute;
  • The successful completion of two new subjects; Traffic Medicine and Elements of Forensic Toxicology.
