The following were identified and conducted in the last 12 months:

VIFM Vision, Mission, Values were reviewed and new statements developed by a team of staff in February/March 2003 with consultation and input from all staff .

Following changes to privacy legislation a privacy policy was developed and a Privacy Committee has been established which meets monthly.

The new staff induction process was reviewed and streamlined in 2003.

The Rewards and Recognition program was reviewed and revised with guidelines developed along with closer adherence to newly developed core values.

On-line (Smart-force) e-learning of Microsoft Office programs available to staff for self-paced learning and regular IT training program provided to all staff.

Image Plan To develop a plan to improve the VIFM's image capital by harnessing our information and knowledge to better service the needs and expectations of our stakeholders / clients.

Review of the management of medical records in line with the Health Records Act in association with the introduction of a streamlined medical records handling system. The VIFM Internet Web-site was redesigned with the introduction of a new standardised content management system.

Automatic downloads of Toxicology results with minimal transcription of results from instrument to final report.

Introduction of bar coding for the mortuary and the laboratories.

Redesigned the histology laboratory information management system.

Developed an implementation plan for the chemical management system. Commenced the staged implementation of the software.

All existing documents were converted from the previous word processing system (Applix) to the new word based document control system e-VIFM with respective policies and procedures updated.

Developed the management training and development program for the Institute as well as the Managers Meeting program.
