The Institute employs a range of specialist forensic pathologists. In addition to routine forensic pathology medico-legal opinions covering issues such as injury interpretation, cause of death and reconstruction of events around death in circumstances of homicide or suspicious deaths, the pathologists also provide advice in a number of civil matters relating to workplace disease, death and injury. A number of the pathology staff of the Institute have areas of special interest including assessment of injuries associated with firearms, aviation medicine, industrial disease, paediatric and neuropathology, public health and infectious disease and assessment of medical treatment. The medical staff of the Institute are able to undertake private consultations in these and other areas, and can be contacted at enq.medicolegal@vifm.org or via the contact page.
