The Department of Forensic Medicine, Monash University is unique in that it is an academic unit which exists in parallel with a publicly funded, operational forensic medicine service facility (VIFM).
Course Information
VIFM, in partnership with the Department of Forensic Medicine, Monash University, provides opportunities for training, education and research in a wide range of forensic medical and scientific disciplines.
Research
Since its inception 21 years ago the Institute, together with the Department of Forensic Medicine, has produced many significant research findings that have contributed to death and injury prevention and public health.

The National Coronial Information System (NCIS) is a database which provides a research resource nationally and internationally.
Becoming an Intern or Registrar at VIFM
Training for doctors in Forensic Pathology is available at the Institute as part of the post graduate training program operated through the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia.
International & Humanitarian Work
Humanitarian work in the aftermath of human induced or natural disasters, has allowed VIFM’s staff to hone and broaden their skills.
