Background of the DTBV

Established in 1989, the Donor Tissue Bank of Victoria is the largest tissue bank in Australia as well as being the only one of its kind, processing and distributing multiple types of tissue from the one facility.  It is a not-for-profit organisation which provides a central facility for the acquisition, processing, storage and distribution of tissue for translantation.

The Donor Tissue Bank of Victoria aims to offer relatives the opportunity to salvage something positive from the tragedy of untimely death.  The Bank's operations are guided by an ethics committee and an advisory board with an emphasis on quality. 

The Donor Tissue Bank of Victoria is located in the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine, which forms part of the Coronial Services Centre, along with the State Coroner's Office.
