Parking at VIFM

PLEASE NOTE: The State Coronial Services Centre is undergoing a major redevelopment and as a result, VIFM currently only has car parking spaces available for families visiting the Institute on business relating to a deceased family member.

This carpark is accessible at 57-83 Kavanagh Street, Southbank. Please drive up to the boom gate and press the buzzer located on the intercom box for entry.

If you are planning to visit the Institute on any other business, we regret that we have no parking available on site. Please seek alternative parking arrangements (see list below for car parking in the area).

STUDENTS PLEASE NOTE: There is no parking available at VIFM for students attending lectures or exams at VIFM. Please seek alternative parking options or public transport.

Parking Near VIFM

There are a very limited number of metered street parking spaces around the Institute with various time limits.

Alternatively, there are several ‘pay-to-park’ car parks located within 5 minutes walk of the Institute. These include:

The Arts Centre Car Park
Located beneath the National Gallery of Victoria. Entry to the Arts Centre car park is located on the corner of Sturt and Kavanagh Streets, Southbank. Phone: (03) 9281 8012

Wilson Parking – Freshwater Place, Southbank
Located at Freshwater Place, Southbank. Entry via Southbank Boulevard. Phone: (03) 9224 0301

Wilson Parking – 2  Riverside Quay, Southbank
Located behind the Southbank Promenade, near the base of Eureka Tower. Entry via Southbank Boulevard. Phone: (03) 9224 0301

The Ballet Centre Carpark
Located at 2 Kavanagh Street, Southbank. Entry via Kavanagh St, Phone: (03) 9669 2853

Carpark on the corner of Power Street and Kavanagh Street

Mon – Fri only. Located at 93-115 Kavanagh Street. Entry via Kavanagh Street. This carpark usually fills up by 9am but only costs $6 for all day parking.

Public Transport

Train
The nearest train station to VIFM is Flinders Street station. Allow 10 minutes to walk to VIFM.
Tram
The closest tram stop is directly outside the Melbourne Recital Centre (Stop number 17). Coming from the city, catch Tram no. 1. VIFM is a short walk from the Melbourne Recital Centre.

VIFM is also a 5 minute walk from Tram Stop 16 (corner Southbank Boulevard and St Kilda Road) located in front of the National Gallery of Victoria. This stop is serviced by routes 1, 3, 5, 6, 8, 16, 64, 67, 72.
Bus
Melbourne Bus Link operates three routes along Southbank Boulevard: Route 216, 219 and 220.
