Interim Report: Interim Report of the Independent Review to Improve Practice and Response of ACFID members in the Prevention of Sexual Misconduct

The Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine comments on the publication of the interim report for the Independent Review to Improve Practice and Response of ACFID’s Members in the Prevention of Sexual Misconduct

VIFM Review Project Manager, Dr Maaike Moller said that early observations from phase 1, which included international research, have identified emerging themes about sexual exploitation and abuse in the global aid sector.

“There are some clear risk factors for sexual misconduct that relate to frequent staff rotations, project-based work and proximity to large populations of vulnerable people in desperate situations. While we have just commenced our detailed examination of Australian NGO practices, we know that Australia is an acknowledged leader in the development and application of child protection frameworks in the international aid sector”.
