Heath Davies from the DTBV receives a Janette Hall Scholarship for professional training and development.

July 10th 2013

Mr Heath DaviesThe Institute wishes to congratulate Mr Heath Davies, a Tissue Bank Technician in the Donor Tissue Bank of Victoria (DTBV), who was awarded a Janette Hall Scholarship in June 2013. Heath is one of four recipients in Australia of this professional training and development scholarship which is administered by the Australian Organ and Tissue Authority.

The winners were announced by the Parliamentary Secretary for Health and Ageing, Shayne Neumann MP. The scholarship was established in 2011 in memory of Janette Hall, a senior donation specialist nurse who became an organ and tissue donor after she died in December 2010. It enables four scholarship recipients to receive specialist training and education, both in Australia and internationally, that will inform their future work and clinical practice.  By sharing their experience with colleagues, scholarship recipients can promote broader awareness of best-practice approaches to donation and transplantation in Australia.

Heath has proposed to complete a program offered by Transplant Procurement Management, at the University of Barcelona, Spain, on topics such as tissue banking, cell therapy and regenerative medicine, and advanced therapies and blood banking.
